Want to learn more about On Point for College?

  • On Point for College spells its name as four words (not three!).
  • While not the first to offer college access services, On Point was a pioneer in college success services—recognizing early on that it’s not enough to help students get into school; they also need ongoing support to reach graduation. In 2008, we expanded our model to include career counseling services, helping students prepare not just for college, but for life after it.
  • Founded in Syracuse in 1999, we expanded to Utica in 2012. That same year, we partnered with Goddard Riverside’s Option Center and the New Settlement Apartments in Manhattan and the Bronx to replicate our success services in New York City. In 2018, we expanded again, bringing our services to nearly all of Central New York.
  • On Point serves students of all ages, backgrounds, and educational levels across six counties in Central New York: Onondaga, Oneida, Madison, Herkimer, Cayuga, and Oswego.
  • First-generation students – Opening doors to higher education for those blazing a new trail in their families.
  • Traditional and non-traditional students – Supporting recent high school graduates, adult learners returning to school, and those resuming education after stopping out.
  • Students with a range of academic goals – Assisting with two- or four-year degrees, professional certifications, and other postsecondary training.
  • Students in need of guidance – Providing direction, encouragement, and personalized assistance at every step.
  • Students facing additional barriers – Working with those who may have refugee/immigrant status, experience in foster care, housing insecurity, dependent children, court involvement, or no parental support.
  • Access – Support with enrolling in college or other postsecondary programs, applying for financial aid, and preparing to begin.
  • Success – Guidance to help students stay in school, transfer when needed, and access on- and off-campus resources.
  • Career Services – Help for students and graduates transitioning to meaningful careers, including internships, networking, job fairs, and resume/cover letter coaching.
  • At any given time, we are supporting roughly 3,000 students currently enrolled in college. As of fall 2025, more than 5,000 students have earned over 6,500 college degrees. Our students have attended more than 200 colleges and universities across the United States.
  • On Point alumni now number in the thousands. They include doctors, lawyers, police officers, firefighters, photojournalists, television producers, architects, entrepreneurs, teachers, accountants, actors, nonprofit leaders, On Point employees, nurses, and more.
